2.14.2015 | A Romantic Black and Gold Valentine’s Day Wedding | Fauquier Springs Country Club, Warrenton, Virginia
Candice and I used to work together and when she contacted me about photographing her wedding, I was so excited! She asked if I had any Valentine’s Day plans and I said, “nope!” and she said “GOOD… because I’m getting married!!!”
The story behind how she met Mike is ahhhhhdorable. Long story short, Mike and Candice both attended their friends’ wedding a little over a year ago, Mike was friends with the groom and Candice was friends with the bride. Days later after the wedding was over, Mike texted his friend and asked about “the girl with the smile” and that he HAD to meet her. Weeks later, Mike and Candice met again at their friend’s house for dinner and they hit it off!
The wedding day was filled with love and a lot of surprises! Read on to find out what happened!!
I arrived for getting ready photos to a group of excited bridesmaids putting the finishing touches on their makeup and Candice’s daughter, Freedom, getting her hair done. Candice ran up to me with a huge smile on her face EXCITED for her wedding day!
I hung the dress in the opening to the elevator and took a photo of the reflection in the hallway mirror!
I love all the sparkles!
Sweet mother and daughter photo!
While I was photographing the ladies, my friend from high school and second shooter, Ally, of Ally Burnett Photography captured Mike, Candice’s son, Kai, and the rest of the guys getting ready!
Mike and Kai! Lookin’ good!
We left the hotel and drove to Fauquier Springs Country Club to get ready for the first look! I love the anticipation leading up to the big moment! Candice and Mike’s first look moment was so sweet! I mean, hello! Look at that “girl with the smile!”
Their expressions in the first photo make me laugh!
I love this shot!
Sharing a prayer and a sweet moment.
Mike and Candice are naturals! How sweet is this!!
Funniest moment? When the kids saw us coming back from taking first look photos. Kai was excited and Freedom was like “ugh! Mom! I wanted to come too!”
Mike and Candice snuck back inside before the guests started to arrive. I met back up with the girls for a few photos before ceremony time!
One of my favorite detail shots… ever! The gold! The sparkles! The flowers!
I love Freedom’s face in this one!Mike bent down to say some words to Freedom and Kai. It was so sweet! The kids started to tear up and I’m pretty sure everyone in the room was tearing up too!
and then… THE POWER WENT OUT! but the show went on…
Candice and Mike were extremely chill about the entire thing! Candice just kept saying, “oh well… can’t change anything about it!”… Best. Attitude. Ever. You would have known the power was out because they partied on! I grabbed my flash and the videographer set up his light which helped a lot!
After the ceremony, we rushed outside to take formals before the sun went down and because the forecast said heavy snow in 30 minutes! It was… FREEZING! Everyone came out in coats, we counted to 3, and threw the coats to the side and took formals super quick!
Drumroll, please!!! Introducing Mr & Mrs Desmond!
Along with no lights, we had no music either! So, I looked up their wedding song on YouTube and told Mike to put my phone in his pocket so at least THEY could hear it. They danced, we watched, we cheered, and then over in the corner, half of the food table COLLAPSED… and they kept on dancing and then laughing because it was just like, NO WAY, Really?!
Luckily for us, the coordinator found a generator and the DJ was able to hook up one of the speakers! YAY! Music!!
Freedom and Kai really know how to break it down!
The ambiance of the room was even more romantic with all of the candlelight! Candice kept joking that she was glad she incorporated a lot of candles into the décor!
Most adorable moment? When Candice’s son, Kai, stood up and made a toast! He thanked everyone for coming to celebrate his mom and Mike getting married. He said he was happy to have Mike in the family and to see his mom so happy…. Kai, you made us MELT!
Candice and Mike’s wedding was nothing short of memorable! Not only was it on Valentine’s Day but we survived the madness of the power outage, the freezing cold formals, the blizzard, and the food table collapse. I’m so thankful we were all able to literally “keep calm and carry on”!
Congratulations Candice and Mike!! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day!
