Kathryn and Jason’s Rust Manor House wedding was. a. PAR-TAY! These two and all of their friends know how to break it down on the dance floor… but we’ll get to that later. It’s funny because I first photographed them in February (on a freezing windy day in D.C.) for their engagement session and their wedding happened to fall on quite possibly the coldest day that we’ve had yet this Fall. After getting ready and toasting with champagne, I promised the girls I would only make them stand outside once… so we waited until after the ceremony to take all of our group shots!
The ceremony was short and sweet with readings and family sitting while the rest of their guests watched from the staircase and landing – very cozy! They said their “I DOs” then walked out, excited!!, as husband and wife! The group braved the cold for me and we caught the last little bit of light coming through the Fall colored trees. This group was a fun, rowdy bunch so of course, the fun didn’t stop there. Each pair made quite the entrance into the ceremony which led to Mr and Mrs Hense sharing their first dance surrounded by their best friends! I love when the bridal party stands for the first dance! I love catching their emotions in the background while the bride and groom sway.
Once DJ Prievo started the party, there was never a dull moment! They way he mixed songs was killer and everyone was living. it. UPPPPPP! You’ll see in the photos!
My next favorite moment was the bouquet toss. Kathryn threw the bouquet up, it accidentally hit the chandelier, spun around, and landed into Kathryn’s younger sister’s hands and the crowd. went. W I L D! Everyone started chanting “ELLEN, ELLEN, ELLEN!” – it was the best moment! Kathryn leaned over to me and said, “This wedding has been such a blessing. It has brought Ellen so much joy and this was the most perfect unplanned moment.” A second later, Jason came over and picked up Ellen and the crowd went wild again! The moment, the emotions, the photos – priceless!!
