I loved photographing this engagement session at the Historic Aldie Mill but before we get into that… let me tell you about the couple! Emilie and I attend the same college, Hollins University, but didn’t really become friends until our senior year! We’ve grown as friends since college when we discovered that we were both residing in the Northern Virginia area! We were both starving for friendships and missing Hollins so we started weekly/monthly lunch dates to Whole Foods because it was close to where we both worked and because it’s delicious, duh. Next up, Emilie started working at the same company I was working at a few years back SO I got to see a friendly Hollins face every day!!! YAY! Okay, okay… I’m getting to where Emilie met Brian I promise…
Emilie and I were talking one day and she had mentioned that she had met this guy at the Zac Brown Band concert that she had gone to that weekend and they decided they were going to meet… but it WASN’T a date… it’s just two potential friends meeting… (Here I’m thinking — Emilie, it’s DEFINITELY a date). Anyways, long story short, they went on their not-date-friend-meetup and the rest is history.
I couldn’t have been more excited to see them announce their engagement when Brian proposed on a trip to Smith Mountain Lake. Emilie filled me in on the proposal later on saying that it was pouring rain all day then there was FINALLY a break in the rain so Brian rushed outside to the dock to go fishing with Emilie. Then Brian quickly ran off to “grab drinks” and came back with champagne glasses. He got down on one knee and proposed and then Emilie said, “really?!” and started sobbing. ALSO – Brian HAD to figure out a way to propose that day because the champagne glasses were engraved with that date! You’re going to die when you see her ring — the setting is a family heirloom and Brian picked the prettiest diamond to put in the center – it’s insane… it’s Legen-wait for ittttt-dary. (Any How I Met Your Mother fans with me?!)
Fast forward – I was so honored when Emilie told me to block off my schedule for their wedding date and even presented me with a custom mini champagne bottle asking if I would be her wedding photographer!!! (She’s so crafty – I could tell you more stories about her crafting in college – but this is getting long… 🙂 ) I’m so happy to be able to photograph this wedding of my friends! They are the funnest and funniest most chill people you will ever meet! I can’t wait to tear it up on the dance floor for a song (or 5) at their wedding next October in Richmond!
