EMMA & NICK | CHARLESTON ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Back at it again with a Charleston engagement session! YAY! Emma and I met during my sophomore year of college and I’ve know Nick for just as long! But if anyone deserves a gold star, it’s these two. Emma and Nick have been together for nearly a decade! They’ve been through high school, college, and now that post-college life. I was ECSTATIC when they announced their engagement! Even more excited to be able to capture their engagement in beautiful Charleston back in October!
Their love story started more than a decade ago!
From Emma:
“I was from New York and he was from Arizona. He was out in New York visiting his family and we met through a family friend. The family friend, Nick, and I spent a weekend together going around NYC and showing him our hometown. When it was time for him to go back to Arizona – we decided to keep in touch. It wasn’t long before he decided to come back to New York to visit (and for longer this time!). Soon after that we decided to start a long-distance relationship. YIKES. I don’t think either of us knew at that point that we would end up getting married!
We started traveling back and forth visiting each other whenever we could (Holidays and school breaks – I was still a senior in high school!). Then, finally, when I decided to go to Hollins University in Virginia – Nick made the decision to transfer schools from Arizona State to Radford to finish up his degree…” Keep reading for the proposal!!
More from Emma: “Nick’s proposal was so sweet because it incorporated so many things from our 10-year history – like our love for games! He called me at work and told me that I needed to come home early because he had locked himself out – I was frustrated because I had plans after work and he was getting on my nerves being locked out!
When I got home, I thought it was weird that he wasn’t outside (but I thought maybe he went for a walk). When I realized he wasn’t there – I saw roses on the entry table. I travel a lot for work and was getting ready for my busy season so the note said before you leave for travel – lets have some fun and go on a scavenger hunt. I thought it was sweet and romantic – but still had no idea he was proposing!
The hunt took me around the house to items that represented different pieces of our 10 years together! Like our favorite game from game nights or the pictures of us from our first cruise! Finally, the last clue had me get into my car and go to an address. When I arrived at the Jefferson Hotel (a Richmond staple!) I was told to go through the valet and then to the front desk. The man at the front desk handed me a room key and pointed me to the elevators. When I got to the room Nick was on his knee. He said a lot of nice stuff – I’m sure – I can’t quite remember because I feel like I blacked out I was crying so much.
Then we popped Champagne and celebrated! It was sweet and personal and romantic AND all of the reasons I love him!”
